- Led Zeppelin often played "The Song Remains the Same" in concert followed without interruption by "The Rain Song," just as they are on Houses of the Holy.
- "The Song Remains the Same" had gone through two previous titles before it was released. The music came first, and it was called "The Overture." The lyrics were added, and it was called "The Campaign."
- Some of the chords toward the beginning of "The Song Remains the Same" resemble ones used in the Yardbirds' "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor."
- Even in Led Zeppelin's heyday, when the band was filling stadiums and selling millions of records, the group endured more than its fair share of negative reviews in the press. Critics panned their concerts and their albums. Even though the band had a limited few favorite music journalists, from time to time they too would print low opinions. Chris Welch was one such friend of the group, and while he didn't have much positive to say about Led Zeppelin's album Houses of the Holy, he did say that the first song had a buzz of excitement. That track was "The Song Remains the Same."
